On June 18th, Infostrux CEO, Goran Kimovski (Kima) sat down with S. Somasegar (Soma) to discuss Soma’s experience and lessons as a board member and early investor in Snowflake. Kima and Soma discuss the concept and value of the data cloud and why data exchange will be as important as data warehousing. As an active angel investor and seed investor, Soma describes what makes a great investment and what he looks for while investing in both enterprise and consumer segments.
The other realization that goes hand-in-hand with digital transformation is, people realize what a phenomenal asset they have in data and how they use data to advance their business in meaningful ways.
If you talk to an enterprise CIO or CEO, one of the problems they tell you about data is – they know they have a lot of valuable data, but their data is siloed. Every system has its own data and its own storage. There’s no easy way to look at data holistically and then figure out what to do with it.
A system like Snowflake enables you to do that.
Now, even Snowflake would tell you that if you want to bring all of your data into Snowflake, that is great, but you can do it at your own pace. It’s not like you need to bring all of your data into Snowflake on day one for you to be able to take advantage of all the capabilities of Snowflake.
You can bring some of your data into Snowflake and share it with other parts of your company, or with some of your partners, or customers. You can enable them to have a Snowflake account, and boom they can start accessing data.
They don’t need to put in more data, if they want to, sure. Snowflake would love the world’s data to be on Snowflake someday. But you don’t need to wait for all your data to be there to start seeing the value of Snowflake and data sharing.
Today, everybody wants to share data with their partners or their customers, but they can’t. Snowflake enables you to do that seamlessly.
